Where Expression Becomes Belonging
At the heart of every society lies the need for expression - the desire to give form to ideas, emotions, and stories that words alone cannot hold. Tapobhumi is more than a venue for exhibitions; it is a living space where imagination takes root, talent is nurtured, and culture flourishes. Its vision is simple yet profound: to invest in creative and cultural endeavours that enrich human life.

Cultivation and Experimentation
Tapobhumi’s role extends beyond presentation. It is also a space of cultivation, where workshops and collaborations give creators the confidence to grow and the freedom to take risks. Here, tradition merges with contemporary thought, and local narratives converse with global perspectives.

A Dialogue Through Art
Paintings, sculptures, installations, and new media are not just displayed here — they become part of an ongoing dialogue, inviting people to see the world differently. Visitors are not passive spectators but active participants in an experience that sparks curiosity and empathy.
Enriching Life Through Creativity
Tapobhumi is an investment not just in art, but in people — in their capacity to imagine, to question, and to dream. Every exhibition and program is an invitation to pause, reflect, and connect with the richness of human creativity.

Engage
We offer expert curatorial perspectives alongside privileged access to exceptional artworks across genres and generations. Beyond acquisitions, we craft immersive art experiences through bespoke exhibitions, salons, and experiential events that encourage dialogue, reflection, and creative engagement. Through these curated interactions, Tapobhumi fosters deeper connections between art, artists, and audiences—making every encounter meaningful and transformative.

Engage

Uplift
We are guided by the belief that creativity is a shared human inheritance, not a privilege reserved for the visible few. Through thoughtful mentorship, ethical collaboration, and community-centred initiatives, we seek out artists whose voices have remained on the margins of mainstream visibility. Rather than extracting from these practices, we work in partnership—creating pathways for their work to be presented, supported, and valued within wider artistic and cultural conversations.

The
Need for
a Living Tradition
Mysore Paintings
Across India, many individuals and institutions are engaged in valuable work related to Mysore art — researching its history, documenting artists, and collecting historic paintings and artefacts. This scholarship and conservation are essential to preserving memory and material heritage.
However, preservation alone is not enough to keep an art form alive. While archives and collections safeguard the past, they do not, by themselves, create the next generation of professional practitioners.
At present, there is no coordinated, systematic effort dedicated to training large numbers of committed artists to practice Mysore art as a serious, lifelong profession. Without sustained pedagogy, mentorship, and professional pathways, even the most celebrated traditions risk becoming museum pieces rather than living practices.
Tapobhumi Institute for the Promotion of Mysore Art was established precisely to bridge this gap. Our focus is not only on what has been created — but on who will carry the tradition forward.
Tapobhumi Institute for the Promotion of Mysore Art was established precisely to bridge this gap. Our focus is not only on what has been created — but on who will carry the tradition forward.
We believe that an art form survives only when it is:
-
taught rigorously,
-
practiced daily,
-
supported professionally, and
-
passed on intentionally to new generations.
This is the core purpose of Tapobhumi.

Tapobhumi Institute for the Promotion of Mysore Art was founded to complement existing research and conservation efforts by building a structured system for training new generations of professional artists. Through pedagogy, living archives, mentorship, exhibitions, and outreach — anchored at the Tapobhumi Oko Centre for the Arts — the Institute ensures that Mysore art remains a vibrant, practiced, and evolving tradition rather than a relic of the past.
